Being initially from Germany and having done your Master’s Degree in Barcelona, what did the international experience bring to your life, especially regarding education?
Studying in Barcelona helped me to strengthen my international profile, which I consider an important quality for gaining a foothold in today’s cultural business. Having previously focused on the German and Scandinavian cultural branches, I was able to broaden my perspective significantly there.
Why did you decide to do the Master’s degree in Arts and Culture Management from UIC Barcelona?
I chose the Master’s programme at UIC because I consider the international orientation and the proximity to practice to be particularly important.
What have been your career path since you graduated from our programme until now?
Shortly after graduating, I worked as a personal assistant to the artistic director of a major German arts festival until I was poached shortly after to work as a project manager for the City of Nuremberg’s European Capital of Culture 2025 bid.
What knowledge and abilities do you consider you have acquired in the Master’s degree and how they have influenced you personally and professionally?
It helped me a lot to perceive the economic perspective, as I had previously only looked at culture intellectually. These two perspectives are difficult to reconcile, so you have to understand them in order to create a balance.
Who was your favourite teacher?
My favourite teacher was Mohammed Hassan Elrazzaz. Although he taught economics and therefore didn’t have much of a technical connection to culture, he was wonderful at conveying his enthusiasm for culture in his lessons and beyond. He was also able to convey complicated content in an exciting and comprehensible way and you could tell that he was genuinely interested in our progress and was there to help us.
Are you still in contact with other alumni from UIC Barcelona?
During my studies, I made friends with several fellow students, which still exist even though we are scattered internationally.
